FAQs
Alzheimer’s disease and dementia are often confused, but they’re not the same thing. Dementia is a broad term—like an umbrella—describing a set of symptoms that affect memory, thinking, and social abilities severely enough to interfere with daily life. It’s not a specific disease but a syndrome, meaning it can have many causes. Alzheimer’s, on the other hand, is one of those causes—a specific, progressive brain disease that accounts for 60-80% of dementia cases. It’s characterized by the buildup of plaques and tangles in the brain, which damage neurons and lead to memory loss, confusion, and eventually a decline in most cognitive functions.
Assisted living is for residents who need some assistance with the activities of daily living (ADL), such as dressing, bathing, and medication management to maintain their highest level of independence. Memory Care is for residents who’ve been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia and require more attention and a higher level of security than residents in assisted living. Memory support residences at The Summit are carefully designed to ensure residents feel safe and secure. Our program is administered by our highly trained team and structured to build confidence and promote dignity, independence and socialization in a stimulating environment.
Our fully trained staff gets to know your loved one — their history, their likes and dislikes, and preferred schedule. This nurturing relationship often improves interactions, helps foster positive behaviors, and can result in a reduction in medication needs.
