The Glebe is known for its kind spirit and generosity as well as its deep connection to the Appalachian mountains, and on this #FoundationFriday, we are delighted to celebrate a project that combined those elements perfectly.
Glebe resident Shirley Smoot created a beautiful Appalachian Trail Wildflowers quilt, inspired by her love of nature and the proximity of the AT to The Glebe's campus. She was joined in her efforts by fellow residents of The Glebe who cross-stitched the squares, and Roxanne Johnson from Quilts on Main in Galax, Virginia, who quilted the project for free. A raffle was held for chances to win the quilt, raising $1,000 for The Glebe's Benevolent Fund. Mike Jackson took home the quilt, a reminder that many hands make light work, and an even greater impact!
