RICHMOND, VA, April 30, 2026 — In response to strong demand, the LifeSpire of Virginia Board of Trustees has approved plans to expand two of its Life Plan Communities with five new hybrid home buildings. These expansions will include three additional hybrid home buildings at Lakewood in Richmond, adding 42 new independent living residences, and two additional hybrid home buildings at The Summit in Lynchburg, adding 22 residences to the community.

Hybrid homes combine the privacy and space of a standalone cottage with the convenience of apartment living and proximity to amenities, dining, and higher levels of care as needed.

At Lakewood, this expansion will bring the total number of hybrid home buildings to seven and include enhancements to amenities to support the growing population, with improved dining and wellness offerings. Planning and development for Lakewood are led by THW Design.

The Summit will add two new hybrid buildings to its ongoing expansion, bringing its total to four. These additions reflect continued growth at the Lynchburg campus and build on the sales success of their first two hybrid buildings, which are currently under construction. Progress is also being made on The Summit’s 30,000-square-foot holistic wellness center, Blue Ridge Commons, as well as on a memory support center. SFCS Architects is managing design coordination for The Summit.

“Hybrid homes represent what so many older adults are asking for. They want privacy and space balanced with community living, and access to high-quality care,” said Jonathan Cook, LifeSpire President and CEO. “We’re seeing continued enthusiasm for this model at LifeSpire, and these expansions allow us to welcome more residents into our communities and meet that demand with thoughtful planning and design.”

Residences will include garages, natural lighting, spacious floor plans, outdoor patios, and designated storage.
