Anne Brugh grew up in the 1930’s on Hollins Road in Roanoke, Virginia with her parents and older brother. Her father worked at the General Offices for Norfolk and Western and her mother was a third grade teacher
at Burlington Elementary. Anne always knew that she wanted to sing. She sang a solo in her church around age seven and soon started taking piano lessons. Anne says that her mother and father were her biggest influencers as a child. Her father
was sweet and soft spoken, and her mother was a strong personality and a brilliant teacher.

Today, her husband, Latane, is her biggest influence. She joked, “If he’s not following me around, I’m following him around.” Anne says that his Christian servant spirit is his best characteristic. Latane grew up in a nearby town and she always knew who he was growing up in the area. Anne and Latane married in 1982 and would have six children in their combined families.

All her life, advantageous things seemed to be placed by God into Anne’s path, she says. She studied music education at the University of Mary Washington, which served as the women’s college of the University of Virginia at that time. She was a first grade teacher in Martinsville, Virginia, and she lived in Fredericksburg for
a while.

Anne and Latane moved into The Glebe in 2005 before
construction was even completed. They were fortunate
enough to know about the community so early on as Latane had already been serving for years on the Board of the Virginia Baptist Homes Foundation. Anne loves the assurance and certainty that being at The Glebe gives the residents about their continuing lives. She says that The Glebe has the best staff that you can imagine,
who spoil the residents and give them great peace of mind. Years ago, along with Carl Cross, Anne started a Christmas Remembrance Fund for the team members at The Glebe. Donations are gathered from residents throughout the year and distributed in the holiday season among all hourly employees as a thank you for all
their hard work. This project continues annually.

Anne serves the community by playing piano for vespers services. She even wrote “This is The Glebe”, the official song for The Glebe which is sung at the end of each Resident Council meeting. Along with this tradition, she always tells a different joke to close out the meetings. Anne’s personal motto is taken from 2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” She is most proud of her children and the way that they have followed the right path.
