Lynchburg, VA, December 3, 2025 — The Summit, a LifeSpire of Virginia community, has expanded its continuum of care by offering outpatient therapy, home care services, and access to AgeSmart. With a focus on ‘aging in place with confidence’, these additions provide another level of holistic support, enabling residents to enjoy independence and peace of mind at the Life Plan Community.
“These added services will give residents peace of mind that they will receive leading-edge care at The Summit,” Executive Director Kristi Martin said. “We view residents as part of our family, which means they can trust that we will take care of them.”
Outpatient Therapy & Home Care Services
The Summit is partnering with Functional Pathways to provide physical, occupational, and speech therapy directly in residents’ homes. Medicare may cover eligible services for those who qualify.
In addition, residents will receive maintenance therapy such as balance and strengthening, with a physician’s order, to maintain functional ability and independence. These services will complement Blue Ridge Commons, a 30,000-square-foot holistic wellness center currently under construction and slated to open mid-2026. The new amenities will include aerobics and weight training, a therapy pool, lap pool, sauna, and more, all designed to support strength, mobility, and overall well-being.
“We want residents to be confident and comfortable in their own homes as they age,” Martin said.
In addition to therapy, residents will also have access to home care and personal care services from team members vetted through The Summit, providing greater control over staffing and care.
AgeSmart at The Summit
Through LifeSpire of Virginia, The Summit will also offer AgeSmart, which provides access to the care and services they need to age in place at home, including personal care, companion services, assisted living, memory support, and skilled nursing care. AgeSmart is available not only to residents of The Summit, but also to qualifying older adults in the greater Lynchburg area who wish to remain in their homes while benefiting from the amenities and support of The Summit community.
AgeSmart offers the financial protection of long-term care insurance along with the continuum of care and access to the amenities of a Life Plan Community. The cost of long-term care can be staggering and unpredictable, but AgeSmart’s comprehensive plan covers not only the cost of care but also manages and coordinates services as soon as needed.
AgeSmart trades the unknown costs of care for the known costs of the program, protecting members’ hard-earned assets and providing peace of mind that they will never be hit with catastrophic long-term care costs.
Prospective AgeSmart members must be healthy and independent and meet financial and medical eligibility criteria. If a member needs care beyond what can be provided at home, they can receive care in a LifeSpire community or at a community of their choice. Members also receive access to wellness, fitness, social networking, and educational programs.
Outpatient therapy and AgeSmart will be available to residents of The Summit beginning December 1, 2025, with home care services launching January 1, 2026. These additions accompany the ongoing construction of Blue Ridge Commons, as well as a memory support neighborhood and two hybrid home buildings, which combine the best of apartment- and cottage-style independent living. These expanded programs and amenities strengthen The Summit’s commitment to providing person-centered care and vibrant living for residents and the broader community.
