Give Now Honor Tree - Honor someone with a gift to the VBH Foundation.

You can provide purposeful living to residents in need.

Throughout LifeSpire of Virginia’s 70-year history, generous donors have supported many residents who, through no fault of their own, outlived their financial resources. On average, there are 50 to 60 of our 1,200 residents annually who need financial assistance to help cover the cost of their care.  Your gifts provide more than $1 million in benevolent subsidies every year.

You choose where and how to give.

Your benevolent gifts go where you want them to go.  An undesignated gift to the VBH Foundation will benefit benevolence where the need is greatest.  You can also designate your gift to a community.

There are many convenient ways to contribute.

Each community has a Benevolent Fund.  100% of your gifts to these funds can be used for residents living in the communities today.

Each community also has an Endowed Fund for Benevolence.  100% of your gifts to these funds are permanently restricted and invested for the future.  The annual earnings on the fund’s corpus can be used for residents living in the communities today or in the future.

Many people choose to honor the passing of a loved one with a gift.  Friends often make gifts in their memory.  Families often include this language in the obituary:  “in lieu of flowers, please make a gift the VBH Foundation [or the Community’s] Benevolent Fund.”

Family members often celebrate the birthday or special occasion of their loved ones with a gift in their honor. A tribute gift to the VBH Foundation or the Community’s Benevolent Fund is a great way to share their love for you.

As our nation battles the Coronavirus (COVID-19), the seniors of the world are in a vulnerable position.  As LifeSpire of Virginia continues to provide high-quality care and support to our residents, staff in our communities are going above and beyond to make sure all residents are healthy and happy.

You can support our community team members by contributing to the Employee Crisis Fund, which is available to staff should they experience financial hardships due to COVID-19.

As a faith-based organization birthed in Christian values and Virginia Baptist traditions, LifeSpire of Virginia’s communities seek to provide spiritual refreshment and encouragement to residents and staff alike. Each community provides chaplaincy services and offers a variety of spiritual life programs. You can be a part of promoting spiritual wellness by giving to support spiritual life programs and pastoral care.

Spiritual Life

The Virginia Baptist Homes Foundation Influencer Award honors a champion at each of our communities who causes a positive effect on our mission to enhance the lives of their friends and neighbors. Influencers embody the core values of our communities through their spirit, their engagement, and their generosity.

Like a tree cannot grow without the influence of the sun, the Virginia Baptist Homes Foundation cannot grow without the support and generosity of our influencers and supporters.

You can sponsor a tribute ad for our website, promoting your support of this year’s Influencers and of the VBH Foundation/LifeSpire of Virginia communities.

Many people 70 1/2 years or older choose to use their required minimum distribution to give up to $100,000 from their IRA directly to a qualified charity such as ours without having to pay income taxes on the money.

The transfer generates neither taxable income nor a tax deduction, so you benefit even if you do not itemize your deductions.  Your IRA charitable rollover gift can satisfy all or part of that requirement. Contact your IRA manager and instruct them to send a gift directly to the VBH Foundation.  For additional assistance, contact the Foundation at 804-521-9213.

Some donors choose to make an even bigger impact with their gift by joining the Monthly Giving Circle! A commitment to giving every month helps sustain available funding for seniors in need. By giving monthly, you’ll also be helping lower our costs, as you will not receive future solicitations.

Many companies offer to match gifts made by their employees and retirees, doubling the impact of your contribution.  If your company participates, complete your company’s matching gift form and return it to us with your gift. CLICK HERE  to see if your employer matches gifts.

Stocks and publicly traded securities are easy to give and offer tax benefits even if you don’t itemize your tax returns.  Instead of giving cash, some donors give shares of appreciated stocks.  Some even then use the cash to purchase identical replacement shares, leaving their portfolio intact but eliminating capital gains.

The best stocks to use for charitable giving are those that you have owned longer than one year and that have increased greatly in value. The proceeds from the sale of the stocks will benefit the Foundation’s support of the LifeSpire of Virginia ministry.

You can transfer the stock to us electronically through your broker to:

Permanent residents of LifeSpire of Virginia pay an entry fee for the lifetime right to live in one of our communities. Contract options were offered to them that include 90%, 50%, or 0% refund at the end of the contract.

Some residents have designated all or part of their entry fee refund to help others through the work of the VBH Foundation. Of course, if you select the 0% option, there would be no refund and consequently no money to fund a gift, unless one lived in the community 50 months or less. This kind of gift is easy to make, does not require revising a will, and isn’t paid until the contract ends.
